Ishpeming-Jane E. (Hoiem) Maki, a lifelong resident of Ishpeming went to be with her Lord on June 4, 2023, surrounded by her family and staff at Eastwood Nursing Center where she resided for the past 4 years.
A true JEM to all that knew her she will be forever missed for her kindness and quick wit, both inherited from her parents.
Jane was born a twin to Eva (Carlson) Hoiem and Homer Hoiem on January 19, 1938, during the worst snowstorm of the century. She attended Ishpeming Schools and graduated class of 1956. It was in her neighborhood of Barnum Location that she met her husband "Bob", and they were married on March 23, 1957, until his passing on December 25, 2003.
Jane was employed as a waitress after her twins were in school and worked as CNA at Mather Nursing Home (Mission Point) for many years. She loved her job there and took care of all the residents with her love and compassion as if they were her family. Even taking her kids to meet them.
Jane was a lifelong member of Bethel Lutheran Church and along with her pal Janet Wentela, dedicated many hours of volunteer work and friendships in the church office. She also had a lifelong friendship with Bonnie Kurian and Norma DeMarse. She was a member of T.O.P.S. for many years and made many friends along the way. Jane was involved in the forming of the Wednesday morning Ala non-Group.
In her leisure time she loved to knit, coffee clutch every morning with a group of friends but most of all she cherished her time at "camp" where she read many books and took as many saunas as possible. She was happiest and at her best when she could relax at "camp".
Jane is survived by her children; Dean (Jill) Maki, Dianne (Toby) Leppanen, and twins Darlene (Rick) Rice and Debra (Rich) Davis, grandchildren; Jessica (fiancé Dan Uhl) Vial, Jeremy (Meghan) Leppanen, Derrick and Devin Rice, Matthew (Pricilla) Frederickson and Kyle Frederickson, great grandchildren; Sydney Joy Vial, Noah, and Levi Frederickson, along with cousins, nieces, and nephews.
In addition to her parents, Jane was preceded in death by her infant daughter Donna Jayne in 1962, husband Robert in 2003, twin sister Joan Nelson in 2022 and all her brothers and sisters in law on the Maki side.
