Marquette – James A. Westphal, age 84, of 425 Fisher St. (DJ Jacobetti Home for Veterans) Marquette, MI passed away on Sunday, December 31, 2017 at the DJ Jacobetti Home for Veterans.
James was born May 16, 1933 in Battle Creek, MI the son of the late Fred and Mabel (Jones) Westphal. James had attended Kellogg Community College in Battle Creek. He had worked as a corrections officer at the Marquette Branch Prison for several years. Following his retirement, James moved to Nashville, TN and operated Greywolf Investigations. He had also lived in Lake City, FL and St. George, UT prior to moving back to this area two years ago. James loved gambling which included trips to Las Vegas and most recently playing BINGO at Jacobetti. He loved his family and often referred to himself as the head wolf or leader of the pack to his family .
Survivors include his children: Crystal Tuimala of Laurium, Barbara (Leonard) Grubbs of McMinnville, TN and Fred Westphal, brother Jerry (Terry) Westphal of Miami, FL, 10 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife Stella, brother Kenneth, sister Leigh, and 2 grandchildren.
Private family services will be held at a later date.
