Marquette- James "Jim" R. Tuomela, age 80, passed away Saturday, April 02, 2016 at the DJ Jacobetti Home for Veterans where he had been a resident since 1995.
Jim was born January 8, 1936 in Ishpeming to John J. & Aina E. (Olson) Tuomela.
Jim graduated from Ishpeming High School and received a bachelor's degree from Northern Michigan University. Jim served in the US Army from 1955 until his honorable discharge in 1958.
Jim worked in forestry & fire prevention for the State of Michigan in the Department of Natural Resources. Jim was a woodsman who enjoyed the outdoors, especially fishing.
Jim is survived by a niece Christine (Gary) Riggle of Richmond, IN and a nephew Bruce W. Sargent of Montpelier, VT. He was preceded in death by his parents John & Aina, a sister: Helen T. Sargent and 2 brothers: Leroy & Raymond Tuomela.
The family wishes to thank the staff of the DJ Jacobetti Home for Veterans for their long-term and compassionate care.
A private graveside service will be held at the Ishpeming Cemetery at a later date.
