James "Chirp"
Quayle
February 25, 1932 – October 9, 2018
Ishpeming – James L. "Chirp" Quayle, age 86, longtime Ishpeming resident passed away on Tuesday, October 9, 2018 at the DJ Jacobetti Home for Veterans in Marquette where he had resided since April of 2016.
James was born Feb 25, 1932 in National Mine at home the son of the late William and Florence Quayle. He attended the National Mine School. Chirp served in the United States Army during the Korean War. He worked for the Cleveland Cliffs Iron Co., starting in the underground mines and moved on to the Empire Mine from which he retired in the security department.
Chirp was a member of the Wesley United Methodist Church along with the Ishpeming Rock and Mineral Society. He enjoyed golfing at the Wawonowin Country Club, working in his yard and gardens, and winters spent in Zephyrhills, FL.
Survivors include a son Michael Quayle of Staunton, VA, grandchildren: Michael Quayle of Seattle, WA, Rebecca Quayle of Denver, CO, and Bethany Quayle of Richmond, VA, great grandchildren Hailey and Remmington, along with several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by sisters – Mildred Gustafson, Myrtle Hawk and Jean Garceau, brothers – Douglas and Donald "Hub" Quayle along with an infant brother.
The family will greet relatives and friends from 10:00 – 11:00 am on Friday October 19, 2018 at the Wesley United Methodist Church in Ishpeming. A memorial service will follow at 11:00 am on Friday at the Wesley United Methodist Church with the Rev. Matthew Osborn to officiate. Interment will take place at the Ishpeming Cemetery.
