Obituary

Ishpeming- James Herbert Medlyn, age 78 of 606 Cleveland Ave, Ishpeming, passed away Tuesday, April 22, 2008 at the Bell Hospital in Ishpeming.

James was born October 5, 1929 in Ishpeming to Herbert & Bertha (Heard) Medlyn. He graduated from Ishpeming High School, class of 1947 and served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict. Jim was a member of the Clifford W. Jackson American Legion Post #136, was co-founder of the Ishpeming Blue Notes and a member of Bethany Lutheran Church.

Jim worked as a butcher at his family's grocery store- Economy Food Market and was later employed by C.C.I. Mining Company at the Republic Mine and was disabled at age 38 due to a stroke. He continued to live a very full life. He enjoyed short drives around town, taking care of the family's dogs and enjoyed time spent with his family.

Jim is survived by his wife, whom he married August 22, 1953 Marian (Lundin) Medlyn, 4 children: Judy (Craig) Kitchen of Marquette, Barb (Jim) Kinnunen of Negaunee, Cheryl (Dan) Sleeman of Ishpeming and Bill (Allie) Medlyn of Rochester, MN, 7 grandchildren: Laura Sleeman, Sarah and Ken Kinnunen, Katie and Alexandra Kitchen, Maria and Michael Medlyn, a sister Mary Krook of Ishpeming along with numerous nieces and nephews. Jim was preceded in death by his parents, Bertha and Herbert and a son, Tom Medlyn.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00am Friday, April 25, 2008 at the Bethany Lutheran Church in Ishpeming with Rev. Warren Geier and Vicar Luke Smetters officiating. Burial will take place in the Ishpeming Cemetery.

Friends may call at Bethany Lutheran Church in Ishpeming on Thursday from 5:00-8:00pm and again on Friday from 10:00-11:00am.

Pallbearers will be some of Jim's nephews: Ken Krook, Steve Krook, Peter Krook, Scott Bjork and Russ Bjork.
