Ishpeming Twp.- James "Jim" F. Marra, age 75 of 500 Peterson Ave. Ishpeming passed away at his home on Wednesday January 31, 2018.
Jim was born October 2, 1942 in Ishpeming to the late Frank and Mae (Paquette) Marra. He graduated from Ishpeming High School, class of 1960 and began his apprenticeship as an Iron Worker helping to build the Empire mine and some of the major steel mills in Gary, Indiana. He served his country in the US Navy with the Seabees with 2 tours in Vietnam during his enlistment. Jim was involved with the Iron Workers Union former Local 783 and Local 8 of Milwaukee, WI for 55 years, working 40 years as an Iron Worker and as an instructor for the iron worker apprenticeship program for 25 plus years.
Jim was a member of the Ishpeming ELKS Lodge #447 for 41 years, Ishpeming Ski Club, St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church in Ishpeming. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, spending time at camp and always had wonderful vegetable gardens. Jim spent 20 winters in Colorado where he and Judy enjoyed skiing in the mountains.
Jim is survived by his wife Judy (Williams) Marra, whom he married on June 20, 1998, 3 sisters: Jeanette (Bernie) Senske, Jackie Marra, Cathy Marra and a brother Steve Marra all of Ishpeming, nieces: Lisa Ruby, Brenda (Mark) Clements, Amy (Ed) Broxterman and Kimberly (Chad) Kakkuri, his mother in law LaVerne Valente- Teal Lake Assisted Living, along with several great nieces, great nephews and cousins. Jim was preceded in death by his parents Frank and Mae Marra, a sister JoAnn Marra and a brother Fran Marra.
Jim's family will greet relatives and friends from 11:00am-1:00pm on Saturday February 3, 2018 at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church in Ishpeming where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 1:00 pm with Fr. Larry Van Damme officiating.
The Ishpeming ELKS Lodge #447 will conduct a memorial service at 11:30 am at St. Johns Church.
A luncheon will follow at K/D Hall.
Military honors will be accorded by the Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter 380.
Honorary pallbearers will be John Burke, Peter Carlson, Tony Vicario, Bill Pellow, John Wirtanen, John Marra, Mike Hosey and Jerry Goyen.
