Tilden Twp, MI- James M. "Jim" Manty, age 68, entered eternal life on Tuesday March 5, 2024, in Italy while on vacation with his wife JoAnn.
James was born in Ishpeming, Michigan on September 30, 1955, a son of the late William A. and Rose T. (Marra) Manty. Jim was a 1973 graduate of Ishpeming High School and received a bachelor's degree in industrial technology from Northern Michigan University in 1977.
Jim began working at CCI out of college and then began his own construction company for 20 years, Jim Manty Builders, Inc. After closing his construction business, he worked as a safety professional for various companies until his retirement in 2018.
Jim was a member of the Ishpeming Lions Club, Ishpeming ELK's Lodge 447, St. Rocco's Society, and a member of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church where he enjoyed singing in the choir and cooking in the Men's Church Group. In his youth, he was a member of the Ishpeming Blue Notes junior corp. Jim enjoyed snow skiing, woodworking, and antique collecting as well as socializing with friends and family. He was currently serving as a trustee for Tilden Township.
Jim is survived by his wife JoAnn L. (Juntila) Manty, whom he married on August 26, 1977, two sons: Adam Manty, and Andrew Manty, both of Ishpeming. Two sisters, Rita (Bob) Thibeault, of Ishpeming; and Nancy (Ron) Parkkonen, of Sparks, NV; two brothers, Francis Manty, of Cummings, GA; Rich (Sandy Auston) Manty, of Ishpeming, sister-in-law Barbara Manty of Ishpeming; brother in-law Kurt Juntila, of Bark River, sister in-laws Lori (Tim) Rupert, of Sand Springs, OK, Dede (Frank) Caplett, of Skandia, MI, along with numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother Donald Manty and sister in-law, Becky Manty.
The family will greet relatives and friends from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM on Friday, April 5, 2024, at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church in Ishpeming where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 4:00 PM with Fr. Ryan Ford as Celebrant and Bishop Emeritus Tom Skenes also participating. The Mass will be livestreamed which can be found at ishpemingcatholic.com . A dinner will follow at K/D Hall.
Memorial considerations may be directed to the Ishpeming Alumni Association or the Ishpeming Elks Club, #447, both in Ishpeming.
