Ishpeming – James R. Kimball, age 82, of 2105 Jackson Ave., Ishpeming passed away on Friday, January 10, 2014 at his home following a lengthy illness. Jim was born November 28, 1931 in Laurium, MI the son of the late Clyde and Gertrude (O'Neil) Kimball. Jim was a graduate of Calumet High School, Class of 1949. Jim served in the United States Air Force, stateside during the Korean War. Upon his honorable discharge from the service Jim attended Milwaukee School of Engineering, and then transferred to Michigan Tech. Jim began his working career as an electrical engineer in the fall of 1959 with Upper Peninsula Power Co. (UPPCO) in Ishpeming. He was transferred to Gwinn early in his career where he stayed for 4 years prior to returning to Ishpeming from where he retired in 1994. Jim enjoyed family time as he and his wife Bonnie took the family on many vacations across the country with the travel trailer. He was a member of the St. Joseph Catholic Church where he had served on the church council. He was active in his community, which included being a member of the Ishpeming Kiwanis Club, Elks Club and Ishpeming American Legion. He had served as a member of the Ishpeming School Board, Ishpeming Housing Commission and on the board of directors for the Ishpeming Salvation Army. In his younger years he enjoyed hunting and fishing. Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Bonnie L. Kimball of Ishpeming, a daughter Pam (Jeff) Johnson of Negaunee, 2 granddaughters - Maryann Johnson and Natalie Hartman, brothers – Clyde (Joan) Kimball of DeKalb, IL and Paul Kimball of Houghton, son-in-law Jim (Lisa) Hartman of NC, sister-in-laws – Janet Brulla of Manistique and Dorothy Brulla of Calumet, along with several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a daughter Lynn Hartman in 1996, a sister Marie Hebert and brother-in-laws – Jim and Gary Brulla The family will greet relatives and friends from 10:00am – 12:00noon on Tuesday, January 14, 2014 at the St. Joseph Catholic Church in Ishpeming. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 12:00noon on Tuesday at St. Joseph Catholic Church with the Rev. Dan Moll to officiate. Interment will take place at Holy Cross Cemetery in Marquette.
