Ishpeming - James DuWayne Hodges, age 70 of 221 S. Lake St. Ishpeming, passed away Monday, December 27, 2010 at the Marquette County Medical Care Facility where he had been a resident since December 8, 2010.
James was born August 16, 1940 in Marshfield, WI to Melvin & Ida (Gotz) Hodges. He graduated from Marshfield Senior High School 1958. Following graduation he enlisted
in the US Army, two of the three years were spent in Germany. Following his tour of duty he worked in Marshfield until 1963. He then worked for Kohler Company as a foreman in the foundry.
In 1970 he moved to Ishpeming and became a partner with Rollie Haines in Rollies Karpet Lounge on Division St. in Ishpeming. Furniture was added and the store became Rollies Karpet & Furniture. In 1988 he opened the Home Gallery on Main St in Ishpeming that was in business for 16 years. Jim continued to work at Rollies Furniture until ill health one month ago.
Jim enjoyed fishing in his younger years. He was a devoted Packer fan and attended many games at Lambeau Field. He also was an avid vegetable gardener, enjoyed picking berries, making sauerkraut, dill pickles and helping with canning. He also enjoyed his camp on the Dead River Basin where he looked forward to taking pontoon boat rides. Jim was seldom without a crossword book in his hand.
Jim marred Judith Ann (Ehlers) on April 25, 1964 in Marshfield; together they had two sons, Kenton and Kevin (Shawn Grawey) Hodges, 6 grandchildren: Allissa, Marcus, Jordan, Isaac, Brett and Ben Hodges. He also is survived by his sisters: Judy McGivern of Marshfield and Joyce (William) Wiesenthal of Waukesha, sister in law Cristel Hodges of Sheboygan, WI, along with numerous nieces and nephews. Jim was preceded in death by his parents, son Kenton, twin granddaughters: Daniella & Camilla, a brother Kenneth and a sister Shirley.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00pm Thursday, December 30, 2010 at the Bethel Lutheran Church with Rev. Lauri O. Maki officiating. The family will greet relatives and friends at Bethel Lutheran Church on Thursday from 12:00noon until the time of service at 1:00pm
Military Honors will be conducted by the Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter 380 at the conclusion of the funeral ceremony. Lunch to follow.
Pallbearers will be Kevin Hodges, Ryan McGivern, Edward Wales, Patrick "Mike" Seratti, Ben Hodges and Marcus Hodges.
Memorials can be directed to the Bethel Lutheran Church in memory of Jim.
