James Louis DeRoche, 79, of Iron Mountain, died December 24, 2025, after a fall down the stairs helping an acquaintance move household items.

He was born September 28, 1946, in Ishpeming to Laurence and Mildred (LaJoie) DeRoche. He graduated in 1964. A Vietnam veteran, he donated much time and money to helping other Vietnam vets. He worked at Marquette Branch Prison, Frei Chevrolet where he made many lasting friendships.

He married Terri Stetson and they had two adoring daughters Josette (James) Rader of Seguin Texas, and Jessica Moore of Tucson Arizona.
He is survived by his daughters and grandchildren, Shawn (Stephanie) Wilder of South Bend, Indiana, Leanne (Kenny) Wilder of Negaunee, Michigan, Laura (Megan) Neubecker of Ishpeming, Michigan, Jamie (Zach) Freeman of Seguin, Texas, Melissa (Matthew) Williams of Orem, Utah, and Miranda (Payton) Hillman of Idaho Falls, Idaho, great grandchildren Aaida & Adelynn Wilder, Coraline Wilder, Ayden, Kyrian and Amara Williams and Zayden Hillman, his siblings Paul (Jan) DeRoche, Rita (Ron) Sturza and Alice (Robert) LaJoie, along with 77 nieces and nephews, multiple great nieces and nephews, and two previous sons-in-law Keith Wilder of Ishpeming, Michigan and David (Maria) Moore of Tucson, Arizona.

He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings Bernard (Shirley) DeRoche, Mary (Paul) Dobbs, Angela Sister Teresa Laurance of Saint Josephs (65 years), Ann (Ron) Dompiere, Larry (Terri) DeRoche, Peter (Beth) DeRoche and Cissy (Russ) Detwiller.

James' life is difficult to put into words, when he loved, he loved with ALL of him! He loved the Detroit Lions and anyone who was playing against the Packers (much to the chagrin of his youngest daughter) He loved shooting with his friends, he loved being in the woods. He loved to discuss politics (much to the chagrin of his oldest daughter) He loved spending time with his grandchildren. He loved visiting his daughters in Arizona and Texas when it was cold in the U.P. He loved life, even though much of it was difficult. He didn't do anything halfway. It was always all or nothing...much to the chagrin of both his daughters. He is deeply missed by all who loved him. We love you Daddy.

We are planning a celebration of life in July but Dad wanted to be 'burned and sprinkled" and we are honoring his wishes.
