Obituary

Richmond Twp - James Reed Alderton, 73, of 91 Co. Rd. MWF Negaunee (Richmond Twp), passed away on, Sunday, October 18th, 2009 at Marquette General Hospital.

James was born in Ishpeming, Michigan on August 23, 1936, the son of the late William and Hazel (Brown) Alderton. Jim graduated from Ishpeming High School, class of 1954 and attended Milwaukee School of Engineering. Jim was employed by the Cleveland Cliffs Iron Company retiring as Plant Superintendent of the Tilden Mine Pelletizing Plant after working for 36 ½ years.

Jim entered the local political arena being elected as Township Supervisor serving four years and was Chairman of the Marquette Co. Township association and then served as County Commissioner for four years.

He has been a member and served as chairman of many County Commissions including the Marquette Co. Economic Development Corporation, County Natural Resources Commission, Airport Commission, Parks Commission, PIC Council, Economic Development Task Force and served 22 years on the Marquette County Road Commission.

Jim was a member of the Grace Episcopal Church of Ishpeming. He enjoyed traveling to Aruba and spending winters in Florida. Jim always cherished his time spent with his family which included hunting and fishing at the camp on the Pesheeke Grade.

James is survived by his wife Judith (Lindfors) Alderton, whom he married September 22, 1956, a daughter, Vicky Washburn of Ishpeming, two sons Reed Alderton of Negaunee, Randy (Julie) Alderton of Ishpeming, a sister, Sharon (Bill) Stenglein of Marquette, 4 grandchildren: James Washburn of New Mexico, Jason Washburn, Nicholas Alderton, and Kyle Brown all of Ishpeming. Jim was preceded in death by his parents and a son in law Lee Washburn.

Funeral services will be held at the Grace Episcopal Church, in Ishpeming, at 5:00pm on Wednesday, October 21st, with Rev. Phyllis DeWitt & Rev. Richard Graybill officiating. The family will greet friends and relatives from 3:00PM until the time of services at the church. Interment will take place at Park Cemetery in Marquette.
