Ishpeming – Irene D. Kainulainen, age 85, longtime National Mine resident passed away on Wednesday, May 9, 2018 at the Marquette Co. Medical Care Facility in Ishpeming where she had resided since 2009.

Irene was born in Ishpeming on March 5, 1933 the daughter of the late Joseph and Lydia (Maki) Hytinen. She grew up in National Mine and attended the National Mine School. Irene was married to the late Arvo Kainulainen and they had resided in the Finn Farm Location of National Mine for many years. Irene was a homemaker and caretaker. She loved the Salvation Army and St. Vincent de Paul Society and donated to them throughout the years.

Irene is survived by several nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her husband Arvo in 1988, sister Aili Benveneu and brothers Arthur and Carl Hytinen.

Irene's family will greet relatives and friends from 10:00am – 11:0am on Tuesday, May 15, 2018 at the Faith Lutheran Church, Co Rd 581, Ishpeming, where funeral service will follow at 11:00am on Tuesday with the Rev. Doug Norquist to officiate. Interment will take place at the Negaunee Cemetery.

A special thanks goes out to the staff members at the Marquette Co. Medical Care Facility who compassionately cared for Irene for the past 9 years.
