Ishpeming – Irene A. Giotto, age 97, longtime North Lake Location resident passed away on Wednesday, October 19, 2016 at the Marquette Co Medical Care Facility in Ishpeming while in the loving care of her family.
Irene was born September 3, 1919 in Negaunee, MI the daughter of the late William and Anna (Zardus) Gischia. She grew up in Rolling Mill Location and attended the Negaunee Schools. Irene moved to North Lake Location following her marriage to Joseph Giotto where they raised their family. Irene had worked as head of the Housekeeping Dept. at Bell Hospital in Ishpeming for 20 years, retiring in 1981.
Irene was a member of the St. Joseph Catholic Church. In her younger years Irene enjoyed knitting, going for walks around the neighborhood along with doing some cross country skiing in the winter months. Irene had been active with the Ishpeming Twp. Volunteer Fire Dept. Auxiliary., the RSVP program and had volunteered at the St. Vincent de Paul Store in Ishpeming.
Survivors include 3 children - Richard Giotto of Ishpeming, JoAnn (Jerry) Albertson of Ishpeming and Joe (Shari) Giotto of North Lake Loc., 7 grandchildren, along with numerous great grandchildren, and great great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband Joseph Giotto on March 5, 2009, brother Charles Gischia, sisters Mary Farragh and Rita Mascioli and daughter-in-law Carole Giotto.
The Giotto family will greet relatives and friends from 10am until 11am on Friday, October 21, 2016 at the St. Joseph Catholic Church. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00am on Friday at the St. Joseph Catholic Church with the Rev. Fr. Dan Moll to officiate. Interment will take place at the Negaunee Cemetery. A luncheon will follow the services in the church hall.
