Ishpeming- Irene M. Cevigney, age 81, lifelong area resident, passed away on Thursday March 5, 2020 at the Marquette County Medical Care Facility while in the loving care of her family, UP Home Health and Hospice, and nursing home staff.

Irene was born in Ishpeming on April 17, 1938, daughter of the late Nicholas and Evelyn (Matheson) Donato. She attended Ishpeming High School graduating with the class of 1956. Following her graduation she married Gert Cevigney whom she was married to for 62 years. She worked for the Ishpeming Public Schools as the Head Baker for 27 years.

Irene was a member of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, the Ishpeming VFW Auxiliary, and the Ishpeming and Negaunee Cribbage Leagues. She loved playing BINGO, cooking, having her family over for dinners and holidays, and going to the casino where she played the slot machines in moderation.

Irene is survived by her husband of 62 years- Gert Cevigney, 4 children- Sherry (Kim) Goulette, Toni (Paul) Lafreniere, Scott (Lori) Cevigney, Steve (Sue Rice) Cevigney, grandchildren- Sarah (Dave) Wareham, Becky (Doug) Tosa, Jacob (Bianca) Goulette, Tera (Bill) Bell, Jeffrey (Lindy) Martin, Ann Cevigney, Allison Cevigney, Alex (Katt) Beerling, Adam Beerling, Marissa (Matt) Demars, Rachel Cevigney, Tony Delliss, great grandchildren- Lily Bell, Breck Bell, Miles Giotto, Paisely Peterson, Kylie Demars, Parker Beerling, Ella Beerling, Quinn Beerling, Carter Beerling, siblings- Rocky (Janet) Donato, Ralph (Helen) Donato, Jimmy Donato, Nick Donato, and Rose Marie (Chick) Cecchini, along with numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, daughter- Ann Marie Beerling, grandson- Jason Martin, siblings- Stella Ball, Mary Lou Suardini, Victor Donato, Danny Donato, Art Donato, David Donato, and Tony Donato.

Irene's family will greet relatives and friends at the Bjork and Zhulkie Funeral Home on Wednesday March 11, 2020 from 2:00pm until 4:00pm. A memorial service will be celebrated at 4:00pm with Rev. Fr. Ryan Ford officiating. A luncheon will follow the service at the Ishpeming VFW.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Marquette County Medical Care Facility in memory of Irene.
