Ida J. Boback
Michigamme- Ida J. Boback, age 82 of Max St. – P.O. Box 62 Michigamme, passed away Friday, August 10, 2007 at the Mather Nursing Center in Ishpeming Twp where she had been a resident for the past week.
Ida was born July 7, 1925 in Spurr Twp to Waino & Ida Jalava. She graduated from Michigamme High School, having earned all A's in her entire school career. Ida worked for Chrysler in Detroit as a "Rosie the Riveter," building airplanes during World War II. She later worked for the H.W. Gossard Company as a seamstress.
Ida was a wonderful cook and baker and was known for her prune tarts, pancakes, and many other favorites. She was an avid reader, an expert at working crossword puzzles and faithfully communicated with family by phone and letter, including writing in Finnish to family members in Finland. Ida's true joy was her family and their activities. She had a quiet, loving way about her and will be greatly missed.
Ida is survived by her husband of 60 years, Wilson Boback, 2 children: John (Sue) Boback of Ishpeming and Luann (Robert) Houg of Republic, 7 grandchildren: Connie (Steven) Schultz of Michigamme, Becky Boback of Michigamme, Bobbi (Craig) Rice of Ishpeming, Shannon (Joe) Chatman of Macomb, MI, Gabrielle (Tim) Grunlund of Kingsford, Robert (Fawn May) Houg of Minnesota, Breanna Houg of Republic, 3 step grandchildren: Daniel (Deb) Sorensen of Libertyville, IL, Jan (Jeremy) Levi of Negaunee and Katie Sorensen of Ashburn, VA, 16 great grandchildren, and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Ida was preceded in death by 2 brothers, Russell and Oscar Jalava and a sister, Aili Swanson.
A graveside inturnment service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, August 15, 2007 at the Lakeview Cemetery in Michigamme with Rev. Katherine Finegan to officiate. Coffee will be served immediately following the service at the Michigamme Twp Community Building.
Memorial considerations may be directed to the Ishpeming Cancer Society in memory of Ida.
