Ishpeming Twp.- Herbert C. "Herb" LaMere, age 95, lshpeming Township resident, passed away Tuesday, December 17, 2019 at D. J. Jacobetti Home for Veterans in Marquette where he has been a resident for the past 3 ½ years.

Herb was born in Palmer, Michigan on September 11, 1924, a son of the late Frances (Farnum) and Joseph LaMere.  He graduated from Palmer High School, class of 1942.

In 1943 Herb joined the U.S. Army Air Corp, serving with the14th Air Force.  He belonged to the elite group "Flying Tigers", which trained in Burma to defend China against Japan during World War II.

Herb worked many jobs throughout his life, his main employment was with Cleveland Cliffs Iron Company where he worked for 33 years retiring as a maintenance foreman in 1983.

Herb was a member of the Ishpeming VFW Post, Ishpeming bowling leagues, a co-founder of Ishpeming Babe Ruth Baseball League, coaching his sons and grandsons for many years.  He also played bass and steel guitar in numerous country bands.  He was an avid Detroit Tigers and Green Bay Packers fan and deer hunter, shooting his last buck at age 89.

Herb is survived by 5 sons: Wayne (Debbie) LaMere, Terry (Kathie) LaMere, Kim (Kandy) LaMere, Todd LaMere and Rodney LaMere all of Ishpeming, 17 grandchildren, numerous great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.  Herb was preceded in death by his parents, wife: Vi, daughter: Pamela Palm, grandson Rodney Jr., a brother Robert LaMere, and sister Myrtle Martin.

Herb's family will greet relatives and friends from 10:00 am -12:00 noon on Saturday December 21, 2019 at the Bjork and Zhulkie Funeral Home where a memorial service will be held at 12:00 noon with Rev. Fr. Larry Van Damme to officiate.

Interment will take place in the Negaunee Cemetery.

The family would like to thank the staff at D.J. Jacobetti Home for Veterans for their wonderful care provide to Herb.
