Obituary

Ishpeming – Henry "Hank" J. Rundman, age 87 of 754 Poplar St., Ishpeming passed away at his home on Wednesday March 11, 2009 at 10:52am while under the loving care of his family and the U.P. Home Health and Hospice.

Henry was born June 3, 1921 in Ishpeming the youngest child of the late Otto and Etty (Flenn) Rundman. He was a graduate of the Ishpeming High School, Class of 1939. Henry served in the United States Army during World War II in the European Theater with the 391st Anti Aircraft Battalion and following the war he guarded the Nazi war criminals until they stood trial. Upon his return to this area he began working in the family painting business, Rundman and Son's. He worked in both the store and doing commercial painting, and being the youngest of the family eventually became the owner, retiring in the late 1980's.

Henry was a member of the Bethel Lutheran Church, where he was active in the church choir for many years. He loved music and sang in a barbershop chorus and then for 37 years in the Negaunee Male Chorus. He loved the summers spent at his camp which he built on the Dead River Basin. He and Dorothy have many fond memories of following their grandchildren's various sporting events wherever they may have been. Henry and Dorothy recently celebrated their 60th Wedding anniversary.

Survivors include his wife Dorothy Rundman of Ishpeming, a daughter Julie (Bill) Stream of Ishpeming, a son Kurt (Laura) Rundman of Ishpeming, 7 grandchildren – Eric Stream, Christopher Stream, Katie (Matt) Barron, Sarah Stream, Kara Rundman, Kyle (fiancée Jenny Sarasin) Rundman and Kaleb Rundman, a special nephew Jim (Dorothy) Meyer of Ishpeming, along with numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, 5 brothers – Ralph, Eric, Otto, Sven and Bernhardt Rundman, & 3 sisters – Erna Veenhuizen, Ethel Utberg and Norma Rundman.

Funeral services will be held at 12:00noon on Saturday March 14, 2009 at the Bethel Lutheran Church in Ishpeming with the Rev. Lauri O. Maki to officiate. Interment will take place at the Ishpeming Cemetery.

Friends may call at the Bethel Lutheran Church from 10:30am until the time of services on Saturday.

Pallbearers will be Eric & Christopher Stream, Kyle & Kaleb Rundman and Matt Barron.
