Obituary
Ishpeming - Helga H. Barda, age 95, of 245 S. Daisy St., Ishpeming Twp passed away on Thursday, September 4, 2014 at her home while under the loving care of her family and the Upper Peninsula Home Health and Hospice.
Helga was born March 15, 1919 in Diorite Loc., the daughter of the late Frank and Lydia (Maki / Korkiakangas) Numikoski. Helga spent her early childhood in Diorite Loc. and then moved with her family to Palmer where she attended grade school. She moved to the Chicago area during World War II to help out in the war effort working as a "Rosie the Riveter". Following the war she married John Barda and together they resided in Ontonagon, Revenna and Marquette for one year each prior to settling in Melvindale, MI for 27 years, Helga was a homemaker. They moved to Ishpeming in 1976 and had resided here since. Helga enjoyed knitting, doing puzzles, flower gardening and cake decorating. She always cherished time spent with her family, especially following her grandchildren's activities.
Survivors include her husband John S. Barda of Ishpeming; 2 daughters – Nachel (Val) Lindsay and Colleen (Dale) Helstein both of Ishpeming; a brother John (Mary Lou) Numikoski of Holland, MI; 10 grandchildren – Randy, Jeremy, Sara, Erik, Justin, Ryan, Danielle, Lisa, Natalie and Ashley; 11 great grandchildren – Veronica, Derek, Isabella, Dyllan, Jason, Jayme, Brecken, Milaneya, Griffin, Halle and Madacyn; a great-great granddaughter – Serenity, along with numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, 2 sisters and 7 brothers.
The family will greet relatives and friends from 6 until 8pm on Sunday, September 7, 2014 at the Laestadian Lutheran Church in Ishpeming and again on Monday from 10 – 11am. Funeral services will be held at 11:00am on Monday, September 8, 2014 at the Laestadian Lutheran with Steven Laiho to officiate. Interment will take place at the Negaunee Cemetery. Pallbearers will be her grandsons.
