Ishpeming - Helen M. Swanberg, age 90, longtime Ishpeming resident passed away on Friday, September 12, 2014 at a son's home while in the loving care of her family and U.P. Home Health.
Helen was born January 12, 1924 in Negaunee, MI the daughter of the late Peter and Maria (Motto) Polini. She was a graduate of the St. Paul's High School. Helen was married to the late Gordon Swanberg for 60 years. She worked as a telephone operator before devoting her life to her family as a homemaker. She enjoyed cooking, baking, preserving, sewing and knitting. Along with being an avid reader, she enjoyed playing bridge and doing word puzzles. She was an active member of the St. Joseph Catholic Church, the woman's guild and the sewing group.
Survivors include 3 sons – John Swanberg of Baytown, Tx, Bill Swanberg and Scott Swanberg both of Ishpeming; a daughter Carol (John) McHugh of West Bend, WI; grandchildren – Craig (Amy), Caralee, Nathan, Peter and Matt; a great granddaughter Chloe; along with numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband Gordon Swanberg in 2008, her parents, 2 brothers – Dominic and Edmond Polini and a sister Edith Andriacchi.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00am on Thursday September 18, 2014 at St. Joseph Catholic Church with the Rev. Fr. Dan Moll to officiate. The family will greet relatives and friends from 10:00am until the time of service at 11:00am on Thursday at the church. Interment will take place at the Ishpeming Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Helen's nephews. A luncheon will follow the services in the church hall.
