Ishpeming Twp. - Helen S. Ruohomaki, age 87 of 1840 North Lake Dr. Ishpeming, went to be with her savior and her final home on Saturday, January 15, 2011 at her home.
Helen was born August 25, 1923 in Covington, MI to Nicholas & Sophie (Orquist) Hautamaki. She moved to Ishpeming at the age of 7 where she lived most of her life. Helen worked for the H.W. Gossard Company, Bell Hospital, Globe Printing and as a "Rosie Riveter" working in a bomber plant (B-25's) in Detroit.
Helen was a member of the Hope Free Evangelical Lutheran Church where she was active in many church activities including teaching Sunday School. She enjoyed knitting, reading and had a wonderful gift of hospitality. Family and her deep faith were her top priorities.
Helen is survived by two children: Roy (Susan) Ruohomaki of Iron Mountain, Louise (Charles) Levi of Negaunee, a sister Elsie Alongo of Ishpeming, a brother Richard (Myrtle) Hautamaki of West Ishpeming, 3 grandchildren: Todd (Kerri) Ruohomaki of Aurora, WI, Lisa (Jason) Brown of Phoenix, AZ and Jeremy (Jan) Levi of Negaunee, 8 great grandchildren: Brittany Brown, Jamin, Janelle and Jakob Ruohomaki, Ilia, Jonah, Kieren and Jaina Levi along with several nieces and nephews. Helen was preceded in death by her parents, husband Waino, a brother Eugene and a sister Ruth Stanaway.
Funeral services and visitation will be held on Tuesday, January 18, 2011 at the Hope Free Evangelical Lutheran Church with visitation from 10:00am until the time of service at 11:00am with Rev. Micah Hjermstad officiating.
Interment will take place at Northland Chapel Gardens.
