Champion - Harvey A. Moore, Jr., age 71, of 2651 Co Rd FA Champion, passed away Monday, February 16th, 2009 at Marquette General Hospital, where he had been a patient for the past week.

Harvey was born in Bay Co, Michigan on May 23, 1937, the son of the late Harvey and Frances (Jeske) Moore. He served in the U.S. Army as a SP3 (T) receiving a Sharpshooter (M-1), and a Good Conduct Medal. Harvey married Elaine Arsenault on June14th, 1958. Harvey worked as a Deputy Sheriff in Bay County downstate. He became a heavy equipment operator for the Operating Engineers Local #324, working for Luke Brothers, Brumm Construction, and all over the United States on various pipelines. He and his wife also had owned and operated the Starlight Motel in Negaunee and the Hoist West Restaurant in Ishpeming Twp. for several years.

Harvey enjoyed fishing, hunting, being outdoors and working in his yard, keeping it beautiful. He enjoyed feeding the wildlife that wandered into his yard and spent many hours watching them. He enjoyed the time spent with his family, children, and grandchildren and his canine pal Snoopy.

Survivors include his wife of 50 years Elaine (Arsenault) Moore of Champion, five children - Harvey Moore III of Champion, Sandra (Kurt) Collins of Negaunee, Mark Moore of Champion, Tammy (Gerald Hebert) LaCosse of Ishpeming, Tina (Joe) Leahy of Howell, grandchildren - Jessica Manier, Kaleb Collins, Brenda Moore, Carrie Moore, and Mara Vance, sisters - Gloria Maida of Linwood and Betty (Jerry) Skuta of Pinconning, along with nieces and nephews: Randy Maida, Ricky (Wendy) Maida, and Cyndi Skuta.

Harvey is preceded in death by a daughter Susan Moore, his parents Harvey Sr. and Frances, and his father-in-law and mother-in-law Jim and Rose Arsenault, Brother-in-law Peter Maida.

A memorial gathering of family and friends will be held from 4 until 7 pm on Thursday February 19, 2009 at the Bjork & Zhulkie Funeral Home, where a memorial prayer service will be held at 6:00pm with sister Marge Schmelzle to officiate.
