Ishpeming – Harry D. Elliott, age 73, longtime Ishpeming resident passed away on Thursday, January 1, 2015 at the D.J. Jacobetti Home for Veterans in Marquette where he had been a resident since March 16, 2010.
Harry was born February 7, 1941 in Sault Ste. Marie, MI the son of the late Percy and Racine (Aube) Elliott. He grew up in the Sault Ste. Marie, MI area, spending most of his childhood on Lime Island on the St. Mary's River. Harry entered the United States Army in Dec. of 1961 and was honorably discharged from the Army in Dec. of 1963, serving stateside during the Cuban Missile Crisis. He married the late Bonnie Racine on January 20, 1979. Harry had worked for A. Lindberg and Sons as a truck driver for many years, retiring in 2002. Harry was a member of the Teamsters Union, the American Legion, Post #114, the Negaunee Elks. He enjoyed spending time at the Ishpeming VFW, was an avid Detroit Red Wings fan, loved hunting and fishing along with old western films.
Survivors include 2 daughters – Kerry (Donald) Johnson of Sagola, MI and Erin (Thomas) Bryan of Shakopee, MN, a sister Marilyn (Mike) Kravis of Sault Ste. Marie, a granddaughter Ashley Johnson, a grandson Noah Bryan along with several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Bonnie in 2003, a brother William and his feline friend "Misty".
Funeral services will be held at 2:00pm on Saturday January 3, 2015 at the Bjork & Zhulkie Funeral Home in Ishpeming with the Rev. Fr. Dan Moll to officiate. Military Honors will be accorded by the Vietnam Veterans of America, Chapter #380 at the conclusion of the services. The family will greet relatives and friends from 11:00am until 2:00pm on Saturday at the Bjork & Zhulkie Funeral Home. Interment will take place at the Ishpeming Cemetery.
