Marquette – Gwendolyn Skewis, age 86, longtime Ishpeming resident and currently of 1530 W. Ridge St., Marquette passed away on Friday, January 24, 2014 at the Norlite Nursing Center in Marquette, where she had resided for the past 3 months. Gwendolyn was born February 6, 1927 in Salisbury Loc., Ishpeming, MI to the late Oscar and Carrie (James) Emanuelson. She had worked for the H.W. Gossard Co. in the packaging and shipping dept. for 10 years. Gwen had resided in Ishpeming most of her life, and had married Robert Skewis on Oct. 12, 1985. In 1997 they moved to Marquette where she had resided since. Gwen was a member of the Wesley United Methodist Church. She enjoyed reading, games shows and shopping trips especially when it involved a coffee stop mainly at Target. Gwen and Bob vacationed many times on Debbie Tours. Survivors include her husband Robert "Bob" Skewis of Marquette, a niece Betsy Knight and nephews Tom and John Pascoe, along with nieces and nephews on the Skewis side – Charles Skewis, Judy Korpi, Jeff Skewis, Rochelle Sundberg, Dan Skewis, Pat Aho, Michael Skewis, Jim Skewis, Rosemary Korpi, Peggy Petersen, Allen Skewis, Joan Goodney, Nancy Milkey, Gene Tasson. She was preceded in death by her first husband William Lassila in 1974, and a sister Bernice Nicholas. Bob will greet relatives and friends from 11:00am – 1:00pm on Wednesday, January 29, 2014 at the Wesley United Methodist Church. Funeral services will follow at 1:00pm on Wednesday at the Church with the Rev. Scott Lindenberg to officiate. Interment will take place at the Ishpeming Cemetery. A luncheon will follow the services in the church hall. Memorials may be directed to the Wesley United Methodist Church in Gwen's memory.
