Ishpeming – Grace Wilson, age 86, longtime Ishpeming Twp. resident, passed away at 3:40pm on Saturday May 14, 2011 at the Marquette Co. Medical Care Facility in Ishpeming while under the loving care of her family, the staff members, and the Upper Peninsula Home Health and Hospice.
Grace was born March 26, 1925 in Negaunee the daughter of the late Irving R. and Theora (Pascoe) Johns. She attended the Negaunee Public Schools, graduating from the Negaunee High School in 1942. Grace worked for 30 years as a sales agent for Stanley Home Products, and also worked as a sales clerk in many area stores.
Grace was a member of the Wesley United Methodist Church, where she was a Sunday school leader, member of the choir. She was a member and past Matron of the Order of the Eastern Star, member and past Noble Grand of the Rebecca Lodge. Grace was actively involved with the Girl Scouts for 39 years being a junior and senior leader, council member, day camp leader and did counseling at other camps. Grace enjoyed wintering in Tucson, AZ with her late husband Alden who preceded her in death on June 8, 2007. While in Arizona she enjoyed playing shuffle board especially in the Sr. Olympic Tournaments, where both she and her husband took several first and second places. She enjoyed baking and introduced Pasties to the Tucson, AZ area while wintering there.
Survivors include 4 children – Kaye (Dan) Mitchell of Republic, Sue (Kevin) Palkki of Negaunee, Rick Wilson (Vicki Laituri) of Gwinn and Debbie (Ed) McNamee of Aikin, SC, a brother – Irving R. (Arlene) Johns of Ludington, 19 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren along with numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, brother - Milton R. Johns, and great grandson - Nathan Wainio.
Funeral services will be held at 3:00pm on Tuesday, May 17, 2011 at the Wesley United Methodist Church in Ishpeming with the Rev. Scott Lindenberg to officiate. Entombment will take place at Northland Chapel Gardens.
The family will greet relatives and friends from 2:00 to 3:00pm on Tuesday, May 17, 2011 at the Wesley United Methodist Church in Ishpeming, where the Order of Eastern Star, Negaunee Chapter #100 will hold a memorial service at 2:30pm.
