Ishpeming - Grace M. Pearce, age 98, passed away Monday, May 30, 2016 at the Mather Nursing Center in Ishpeming Twp.
Grace was born February 19, 1918, the daughter of Chas I. and Helen M. (Stone) Markert. She was a lifelong Ishpeming resident and a graduate of Ishpeming High School class of 1936. Grace was employed by the Mining Journal as a reporter for 32 and a half years retiring in 1973. She married George A. Pearce in 1943.
Grace was a member of the Wesley United Methodist Church where she served on the administration board, and a former member of the United Methodist Women. She was a former charter member and past president of the Hematite Business and Professional Women, was a former member and past president of the Peninsula Arts Appreciation council, and also volunteered with the Bell Hospital Auxiliary. Grace was an avid gardener, bridge player, and reader.
Grace is survived by Robert Scott Markert of Glenwood, MD, Chas Dudley Markert of Winchester, VA, Janet (Markert) Anfuso of Upper Montclair, NJ, Margaret (Ackermann) Curletti of Pettsfield, MA, William Paul Markert Jr. of Meridian, MS, Andrew Ackermann (deceased), along with several cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband in 1984, and two brothers - Chas R. Markert, and William P. Markert.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM Thursday July 21, 2016 at the Wesley United Methodist Church with Pastor JJ Mannschreck to officiate. A luncheon will follow the service in the church fellowship hall.
