Ishpeming – Gloria S. Cates, age 61 of 1800 Randall Dr. #1, Ishpeming Twp. passed away on Thursday June 11, 2009 at the Bell Hospital in Ishpeming.


Gloria was born June 27, 1947 in Van Wert, Ohio the daughter of Calvin and Florence (Bliss) Burk. She was a graduate of the Ravenna High School, Class of 1965. Gloria worked for several years as an in-home health aid in the Grand Rapids area. For the past three years she had resided in the Ishpeming area and was a member of Kingdom Hall Jehovah's Witnesses. Gloria will be remembered for her love of puzzles and listening to Elvis.


Survivors include 4 children – Jerry Cates Jr. of Munising, Jason (Shelly) Cates, Jamie Cates and James Cates all of Hudsonville, her step-mother – Carol Laugavitz of St. Helen, MI, a brother – Robert L. (Eleanor S.) Burk of Mt. Morris, a step-sister Diane (Everett) Coy of Michigamme, 2 granddaughters – Ashley M. and Montana R. Cates, along with several nieces and nephews.


She was preceded in death by her father along with her grandmother and grandfather.


Memorial service will be held on July 17, 2009 at 11:00am at the Presidential Estates Clubhouse, in Hudsonville, MI with Pastor Richard Borgman to officiate. A luncheon will follow the services at the Clubhouse.
