Chisholm, MN-Gertrude "Gertie" M. Liubakka, - 83, of Chisholm, MN passed away February 19, 2007 at the Heritage Manor Health Care Center - Chisholm, MN. She was born on October 2, 1923 in Black River, MI to Stephanius and Aliina Hintsala. She married Eiseri Liubakka on December 23, 1944 in Negaunee, MI, and was married for just shy of 50 years. Gertie was a long term resident of Republic, MI, she worked as a nurses aide at the Serepta Nursing Home.

Gertie is preceded in death by her parents Stephanius and Aliina Hintsala, her husband Eiseri Liubakka, her first born son, Paul, and a Grandson Stephan Liubakka, Six brothers: Lauri, John, Arne, Arthur, Paul, and Vernon, and one sister, Martha Potila.

She is survived by eight children: Steven (Barbara) Liubakka of Diorite, MI, Sarah (Charles) Holmstrom of Nashwauk, MN, William Liubakka of Superior, WI, Vicky Yrjanainen of South Padre, TX, Kathleen (Kenny) Luke of Fridley, MN, Robert (Bonnie) Liubakka of Florence, WI, Gary (Karen) Liubakka of Hibbing, MN, Judy Liubakka of Ishpeming, MI, Jim Parkkonen of Ishpeming, MI, Glenn (Beth) Liubakka of Andover, MN, 31 Grandchildren with 17 spouses, and 41 Great Grandchildren, Two brothers, Andrew Koski of Republic, MI, Waino Hintsala, and a sister, Irene Nykanen of Negaunee, MI, along with several nieces & nephews and a host of brothers and sisters in faith.

Visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. EST at the Independent Apostolic Lutheran Church, 492 County Road, Negaunee, MI, on Friday February 23, 2007.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. EST at the Independent Apostolic Lutheran Church, 492 County Road, Negaunee, MI, on Saturday February 24, 2007. Chas Prusi officiating. There will be a visitation prior to the funeral services from 12:00 noon to 1:00 p.m.EST A committal service will be held at the church during the funeral. Burial will take place in the Negaunee Cemetery.

Pallbearers: Bo Liubakka, Charlie Holmstrom, Matt Luke, Nathan Liubakka, Ray Liubakka, and Marcus Liubakka.
