Gerard "Jerry" Albert Lemoyne, born February 2, 1944, was a proud veteran of the US Army National Guard, US Air Force and US Army passed on September 12, 2023, from a series of health complications.
The son of Hector and Olivine (Chretien), Jerry grew up in Rochester, New Hampshire.
Jerry is survived by his loving wife of 37 years Connie Lemoyne. Sisters Rita Roberts and Lorraine Keen. Sons and Daughters Jerry (Theresa) Lemoyne, Scott (Erica) Lemoyne, Shane (Nicki) Lemoyne, Nadine Lemoyne Byers, Katherine Lemoyne, and Adam (Erica) Lemoyne. Stepchildren Steve (Janeen) Gravedoni, William (Wendy) Gravedoni and Brandi Denk-Gravedoni. Grandchildren Aiden, Coen and Ryen Murphy, Noah Robinson, Jasiah Placencia, Victoria and Vanessa Lemoyne, Naomi and Ethan Byers, Troy Rinne, Sean, Katie, Tony, and Evan (Kylene) Gravedoni, Lauri Saldana. Great grandchildren Kaiya Schultz and Maria Kasbohm, Hailey, and Michael Lemoyne.
Jerry was preceded in death by his parents Hector and Olivine, sister Rose Preston, Mother and Father-in-Law Stephen and Mary Ivey, Stepdaughter Laurie Rinne.
At the age of 17 Jerry enlisted (one year) in the U.S. Army National Guard and decided it wasn't a good fit. Thereafter, he enlisted in the U.S. Air Force as an Air Policeman with the 610th Bombardment Wing, serving in Italy, Greece, Turkey, and K.I. Sawyer Air Force Base in Michigan. After serving 4 years, Jerry took 1 year off and chose to enlist in the US Army. Soon after completing his training, he was deployed to Vietnam, which took place in 1968, serving 1 year as an Infantryman with the 1st Cavalry Regiment. Before long, he transferred on to aerial recon with the 1st Aviation Brigade, 7th Squadron Blackhawks. Jerry flew as a co-pilot in the OH-6Loach" helicopter flying low level reconnaissance for 1 year before being shot down over enemy territory. Jerry was shot in the leg at this time which ended with a leg amputation. He spent the rest of his military career as a patient in the hospital and also working in the hospital with limited duty. He attained the rank of Staff Sergeant before moving on to civilian life working Civil Service until his full retirement. Jerry worked at Fort Devins, Hanscom Air Force Base, K.I. Sawyer Air Force Base. Army Corps of Engineers.
Earned Medals; Air Medal, Army Commendation, 2 Purple Hearts.
Over the years Jerry enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping trips with family, golfing, feeding the squirrels and spending time with his wife Connie. He absolutely loved Connie's Italian dinners and having drinks while spending time with family.
A graveside service will be held at 1:00 pm on Saturday, September 14, 2024 at the Ishpeming Cemetery with Fr. Larry Van Damme to officiate. Military Honors will be accorded by the UP Funeral Honors Team.
A luncheon will follow at Brandi's residence 220 Silver St. Ishpeming, MI 49849
