Ishpeming – Geraldine A. LaForest, age 94, longtime Ishpeming Twp. resident passed away on Saturday, March 3, 2018 at the Mill Creek Senior Living Community, Memory Care Unit in Marquette while under the loving care of staff members and the Upper Peninsula Home Health and Hospice.
Gerre was born September 13, 1923 in Champion, MI the daughter of the late Joseph and Josephine (Beatty) LaForest. She was a graduate of the Champion High School, Class of 1941. Gerre moved to the Detroit area shortly after her graduation and worked as a secretary for the Chrysler Automotive Co. for over 30 years. Gerre returned to this area in 1975 residing in Ishpeming Township until her recent move to the Teal Lake Senior Living Community in Negaunee last year. She was a member of the St. Joseph Catholic Church.
Survivors include a niece Joan (Peter) Sachtjen of Greenville, NC, nephew Lance (Nancy) LaForest of New Berlin, WI and special friends Gene and Mary Tasson of Ishpeming. She was preceded in death by her parents, brothers – Henry, Walter, Alfred and Brother Laurian (Vincent) LaForest and sisters – Xyilia LaForest who passed as an infant, Mary Lily Jensen, Clara Pepin and Ethel Rose DeCaire.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00am on Wednesday, March 7, 2018 at the St. Joseph Catholic Church in Ishpeming with Fr. Dan Moll to officiate. Visitation will be held at St. Joseph Catholic Church from 10:00am – 11:00am on Wednesday. Interment will take place at the Champion Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the St. Joseph Catholic Church, Memorial Fund in Gerre's memory.
