Obituary

Marquette – George E. Wuokko, age 79, passed away on Tuesday, January 6, 2009 at the DJ Jacobetti Home for Veterans in Marquette where he had resided since 2002.

George was born in Republic, Michigan on March 21, 1929, the son of the late Victor and Tyyne (Seppa) Wuokko. He served in the U.S. Army as a CE in WW II receiving the World War II Victory Medal, the Army of Occupation Medal and an honorable discharge in 1949. He enjoyed woodworking and deer hunting in his younger years.

George is survived by a daughter: Georgiana Miller of Gwinn, two sons: Steven Wuokko and James Wuokko, both of Chicago, IL, a grandson: Justin, two sisters: Aili Nummikoski of Holland, MI, Shirley (Robert) Johnson of Negaunee, a brother: Roger (Janett) Wuokko of Republic, along with several nieces and nephews

George was preceded in death by 3 brothers: John, Reino and William Wuokko, 8 sisters: Elsa Ahtonen, Bertha Kerkela, Elma Laitinen, Elvie Miller, Elaine St. Andre, Esther Remington, Lily Wuokko and Nancy Wuokko.

Funeral Services will be held at the Bjork & Zhulkie Funeral Home in Ishpeming at 11:00AM on Friday, January 9th, with Pastor Ardy Johnson officiating. The Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter 380 will hold a flag presentation. George's family will greet friends and relatives from 10:00AM until the time of services at 11:00AM at the funeral home. Interment will take place at the Republic Twp Cemetery.

Honorary Pallbearers will be Robert Johnson, Robert Johnson, Jr., Russell Johnson, Rudolph Laitinen, Ronald Niemi, and Lloyd Decker.

A special thank you to the staff at the DJ Jacobetti Home for Veterans and to Geo's devoted sister Shirley who visited him several times a week.
