Michigamme – George M. Stagliano, age 80, of 25182 Blue Ridge Dr., passed away Sunday morning, September 28, 2008 at the Marquette County Medical Care Facility where he had resided for just over three weeks.
George was born in Ishpeming, February 23, 1928 to the late Joseph and Catherine (Bertucci) Stagliano. He graduated from Ishpeming High School and honorably served his country in the United States Navy. George married Gloria Lawrence in 1951.
George was a jack-of-all-trades and a very quick learner. He enjoyed building and analyzing things and worked numerous jobs throughout his life. He ran the spectrometer at the Foundry and taught at the United States Naval Training Center. George also worked for the City of Ishpeming, Public Works as an accountant and for Cleveland Cliffs Iron Industry. George was the youngest of eleven siblings and was also the youngest alter boy at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church. He built a home for himself and his wife Gloria on beautiful Beaufort Lake, stick by stick.
George is survived by his wife of 57 years, Gloria (Lawrence) Stagliano of Michigamme, a son Gino (Fancy) Stagliano of Lake Oswego, Oregon, three grandchildren, Joseph attending Ithaca College, NY, Nicholas and Catherine Stagliano of Pennsylvania along with numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and caring friends. George was preceded in death by a son Gary Stagliano in 2003, brothers: Nicholas, Anthony, Vito, Salvatore, and Bruno Stagliano, sisters: Carmella Bertucci, Mary Lundin, Lucy Richards, Rose Stagliano and Adeline Pearce.
A Memorial Mass will be celebrated on Wednesday, October 1, 2008 at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church in Ishpeming at 3:00PM with Rev. Fr. Greg Heikkala to officiate. The family will greet friends and relatives from 1:00PM until the time of service at 3:00PM at the church.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Marquette County Humane Society, 84 Snowfield Rd., Negaunee 49866.
