Obituary

George D. Krummi

It is with profound sadness that the family announce the passing of George D. Krummi, age 79, of Michigamme, on June 13th, 2008.
He is survived by his wife Violet, of 54 years and five children; Donald (Janice) Krummi of Michigamme, Georgia (Al) Martin of Michigamme, Ronald (Michele) Krummi of Salt Lake City, Utah, Denise (Cleo) Latimer of Michigamme and Terri (Stan) Starr of Michigamme. He is also survived by 17 grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews and many extended family and friends, as well as special friends "ole' neighbor" Art, and Sonny and Ann.

Dad was born on January 8th, 1929 to the late August and Mary Krummi. He was the youngest of seven children; Mamie, Ralph, Edwin, Telfer, Martha and Ruth, all of whom have preceded him in death. Dad lived all his life in Michigamme. During those years he worked 17 years at the Champion mine and several years at the Tracy mine. He was also employed by the Kimberly Clark and Mead sawmills.

In his spare time, Dad loved to fish. His two favorite spots were Tower Bay and "the big rock" on Lake Michigamme. He also loved fly fishing for trout and rarely came home empty handed. Dad passed on his love of fishing to his children and taught us that the No. 1 rule of fishing was "If you catch a bass, dig a hole and bury it!". Dad also loved to hunt. We seldom had a meal that did not include venison or partridge. He had a great love of the outdoors, spending countless hours in his garden and feeding and watching his hummingbirds and chickadees.

Dad was an avid sports fan who loved watching as well as cursing the Detroit Lions (who, one day dad, will make it to the superbowl despite the opinions of the Packer fans in the family).
He was a kind man with a gentle heart; whenever any of us needed a hand Dad was always right there to lend it, and for that we will always be grateful.

The family would like to thank Dr. Richard Cooley and U.P. Home Health & Hospice for their compassionate care in looking after our dad. At dad's request, cremation has taken place and no formal service will be held.

Dad, you will be cherished in our hearts forever.
