George A. Evanson

Republic — George A. Evanson, age 83, of Republic, passed away on Thursday, April 16, 2026, at Eastwood Nursing Center while in the loving care of his family, the nursing home staff, and U.P. Home Health and Hospice.

George was born on December 21, 1942, in Chicago, Illinois, the son of the late Charles and Ann (Serozki) Evanson. He grew up in the Chain of Lakes area in northeastern Illinois and attended Grant High School in Fox Lake. He began his career as a machinist with Anchor Coupling and went on to manage the John Crane plant in Fox Lake,IL later working at the Morton Grove, IL location until his retirement. On September 20, 1962, George married the love of his life, Bonnie Tuck, and together they shared 64 years of marriage.

George was a proud member of the Free and Accepted Masons and the Chicago Woodturners. Woodturning was one of his greatest passions, and he could often be found spending hours in his garage crafting beautiful pieces by hand. He also loved camping with his family, creating cherished memories from trips to the Grand Canyon to annual Memorial Day weekends in Wisconsin.

George will be remembered for always looking sharp, with polished shoes and a well-kept outfit, as well as for his happy nature, a great sense of humor, and infectious smile. He truly enjoyed spending time with friends and family, leaving lasting impressions on all who knew him.

He is survived by his loving wife, Bonnie (Tuck) Evanson; his son, Dean Evanson; his daughter, Dawn (Vincent) Schuhknecht; two grandchildren, Kyle (Alissa) and Valerie; and three great-grandchildren, Jace, Millie, and Presley. He was preceded in death by his parents and his four siblings: Charles, Walter, Donald, and Mary Ann.

In accordance with George’s wishes, cremation will take place, and no public services will be held.

In gratitude for the compassionate care and kindness shown to George, donations may be made to the Eastwood Nursing Center Employee Appreciation Fund.
