Obituary

Ishpeming – George E. Eddy, age 71 of 24370 Co. Rd. 581, Ishpeming passed away on Saturday July 3, 2010 at his home, while under the loving care of his family and the Upper Peninsula Home Health and Hospice.


George was born September 15, 1938 in Utica, NY the son of the late Leon and Viola (Kessler) Eddy. He graduated from the Richfield Springs, NY high school. George went on to serve in the United States Air Force, first in the reserves and then four years of active duty, having been stationed at K.I. Sawyer Air Force Base. Upon his honorable discharge he became employed with the Operating Engineers, Local #324 as a heavy equipment operator where he worked for 35 years mainly in the summer months, retiring in 2005. During the winter months George would work as a civilian at the K.I. Sawyer Air Force Base in the maintenance dept.

Following his so called retirement, George went back to work for a few years as over the road trucker, last driving for Gordon Trucking. He also did work for Moyle Trucking and Excavating until 2009. George was a member of the American Legion, Post #114. He thoroughly enjoyed his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He could often have been found spending time around his home, always finding something to tinker with or fix.

Survivors include his wife Jean (Lawer) Eddy whom he married Aug. 6, 1965 in Warren, NY, a son Steve Brown of Stuart, FL, two daughters – Lori (Paul) Trudell of Columbus, WI and Torie (Dan) Eddy-Morris of Juneau, WI, grandchildren – Amanda (Dutch) Ladwig of Fall River, WI, Tabitha Anderson of Reedsburg, WI, Spencer & Evangeline Morris of Juneau, WI, great grandchildren – Matea, Emma, Gus Ladwig and Wyatt Anderson, Sister Barb (Blair) Parnizari of Casper, WY, brother Leon "Sandy" Eddy of West Winfield, NY, brother-in-law Terry (Betsy) Lawer of Ishpeming along with several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister-in-law Bernadette Eddy, and a brother-in-law Robert Lawer.

A sharing of memories and memorial gathering of family and friends will take place from 4 – 7 pm on Tuesday July 6, 2010 at the Eddy family home, 24370 Co. Rd. 581, Ishpeming.
