Republic- Gene "Beaner" L. Gransinger, age 51, lifelong area resident, passed away on Sunday July 10, 2022 at his home while in the loving care of his family and UP Home Health and Hospice.
Gene was born in Ishpeming on June 9, 1971, son of the late David Gransinger and Susan (Haugen) Caliguri. He attended Republic Michigamme schools graduating with the class of 1990. Following graduation he attended Northern Michigan University where he received his bachelor's degree. Gene worked for the Michigan Department of Corrections for 24 years, starting his career at the Alger Correctional Facility, before transferring to the Baraga Correctional Facility where he served as a Sergeant.
Gene was a member of the St. Augustine Catholic Church in Republic, and a former member of the Republic Twp. Fire Department. He enjoyed playing pool and softball in local leagues, gaming on his playstation, sitting on the bank of the river by his property where he had bonfires, watched sunsets, and enjoyed company of family and friends. Gene loved the Minnesota Vikings, he was a season ticket holder and loved taking his kids to games. He loved spending time with his family, going for hikes with his children, shooting his guns, and travelling around the country.
Gene is survived by his fiancée- Susan C. Kowalski, mother- Susan C. Caliguri, 4 children- Molly (Zach Kangas), Shaylee, Keilee, and Kreegan Gransinger, 7 siblings- Tim (Chona Parba) Gransinger, Pat (Donna) Gransinger, Mike (Deb) Gransinger, Newt Gransinger, Shanny (Arn) Anderson, Kelly Ferguson, Dusty (Linda) Gransinger, 4 step siblings- Kevin (Teresa) Caliguri, Jim (Susie) Caliguri, Kim (Ike) Isaacson, Jamie (Howard) Caliguri, along with numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his father David Gransinger and step-father- Jim Caliguri.
Gene's family will greet relatives and friends on Thursday July 14, 2022 from 11:00am until 12:00pm at St. Augustine Catholic Church in Republic. A prayer service will be held at 12:00pm. A pot-luck luncheon will follow in the church hall. Burial will take place in the Republic Cemetery.
In honor of Gene, his family will be wearing Minnesota Vikings apparel and invites anyone to join them in sporting the purple and gold.
