Ely Twp. – Gary E. Prey, age 61 of Ely Township, passed away on Wednesday November 5, 2008 at Marquette General Hospital.

Gary was born in Watersmeet, MI on May 14, 1947 to Herman and Irma (Dain) Prey. A 1966 graduate of Watersmeet High School, he was proud to be a "Nimrod". Gary served in the U.S. Army from Jan. 1967 until December 1968. He married Sally (Vantwoud) Prey on June 6th, 1970 at Watersmeet, MI. They moved to Ishpeming in 1974 and he was employed at Cleveland Cliffs for 29½ years. Gary was a member of Watersmeet American Legion Post #417, and a Life Member of the AmVets Post #122 Ishpeming. He enjoyed camping, was an avid Nascar fan and a lifelong Packer Backer. He was especially close to his canine companion "Cricket".


Gary is survived by his wife Sally of Ely Twp., two sons – Philip Prey of Young America, MN and Marc (Jan) Prey of Ishpeming, grandchildren – Karyn (Brandon) Sagaser of Havelock, NC, Ryan Prey of Young America, MN and Meghan Prey of St. Charles, IL, a brother Robert (Marlene) Prey of Crivitz, WI, sisters – Arlene Janik of Watersmeet, Judith Kuntz of Kenton, Susan (Thomas) Pittsley of Baraga, a sister-in-law Helen Prey of Jefferson City, MO, a brother-in-law Francis Carpenter of Neenah, WI, sister-in-law Barbara (Bryan) Cushman of Medina, OH, along with numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers – Gerald and Ronald Prey, a sister Nancy Carpenter, a daughter-in-law Tambra Prey and a granddaughter Beth Marie Prey, sister-in-law Phyllis Duquette and brother-in-law John Vantwoud.

At the request of the deceased, there will be no services. Inurnment will be at the Watersmeet Township Cemetery with Military Honors at a later date.
