Ishpeming- Gary Ostermeyer passed away at the age of 72 after a brief battle with cancer on March 11, 2024.

Gary was born to Henry and Helen (Mulgren) Ostermeyer in Ishpeming on November 14, 1951. After graduating from Ishpeming High School, he graduated from NMU with plans to be a teacher. One semester as a student teacher in Republic quickly changed his mind. He would then go to work at the Cleveland Cliffs Research Lab where he would stay until his retirement. Gary also owned Osty's Restaurant for a few years in the 90's.

In his younger years, Gary was an avid softball player. He loved the outdoors, especially his time deer hunting south of Ishpeming, and fishing on his boat he christened The Ostermeyer Fortune. In the fall, he could be found watching football, rooting on the Michigan Wolverines and Green Bay Packers. He could also be found doing the rounds at a different fish fry every week with Chuck Lanctot.

Gary is survived by sons Brian (Dena) Ostermeyer and Brad (Krysti) Ostermeyer; his brother Norman Ostermeyer; his grandchildren Devin Koski, Logan Ostermeyer, and Beatrix Zeleznik; a nephew Mike (Brooke) Ostermeyer; numerous cousins and his lifelong friend Kathy Dorie. He is also survived by his beloved cat, Halle. He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister-in-law Sandra Ostermeyer; and a niece, Karen Ostermeyer.

Gary's family will greet relatives and friends from 2:00 – 4:00 pm on Friday, March 15, 2024, at the Bjork and Zhulkie Funeral Home, at 4:00 pm there will be a short service and a time of sharing memories.
