Ishpeming – Gail Korpi, age 64, of 2095 Southwood Dr., Ishpeming passed away at 9:10pm on Monday September 12, 2011 at the Mather Nursing Center while under the loving care of family, the staff at Mather Nursing Center and the Upper Peninsula Home Health and Hospice.
Gail was born November 19, 1946 in Ishpeming the daughter of the late Taisto and Laila (Saari) Wickman. She was a graduate of the National Mine High School, Class of 1964. Following graduation she attended cosmetology school in Detroit and then returned to Ishpeming. Gail worked for a short period as a secretary at the Copper Country Dairy in Ishpeming prior to her marriage on July 6, 1968 to Ronald Korpi. She was a member of the Bethel Lutheran Church.
Gail enjoyed playing BINGO and going to the Casino's, especially visiting with her friends in Christmas, MI. In her younger years, Gail played the piano and would always be called upon to play Christmas Carols on Christmas Eve at her Parents house.
Survivors include her husband Ronald M. Korpi of Ishpeming, her favorite nieces Norma and Lois along with several other nieces and nephews, brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law – Calvin Korpi, Roy Korpi, Earl and Donna Knutson, Bernice Korpi, Marlene Anderson, and Marian Frantti all of Ishpeming, along with her favorite cousin Carole Rundell of Green River, WY whom she grew up with, and her God Daughter, Krista Wealton.
The family will greet relatives and friends from 10:00am until 11:00am on Friday September 16, 2011 at the Bethel Lutheran Church in Ishpeming. Funeral service will follow at 11:00am on Friday at the Bethel Lutheran Church with the Rev. Lauri O. Maki to officiate. Interment will take place at the Ishpeming Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Earl, Blane and Shawn Knutson, Gary Denney, Roy Anderson and Steve Syrja.
