Ishpeming – G. Mae "Bebba" Kari, age 89, of 400 Kari Lane, Tilden Twp., went to be with the Lord on Friday, April 6, 2012 while in the company of loved one's at the Bell Hospital in Ishpeming where she had been admitted earlier that day.
Mae was born May 25, 1922 in Ishpeming the daughter of the late John and Mary (Salmela) Kompsi. She was a graduate of the National Mine High School, Class of 1940. Mae had worked at the H.W. Gossard Co. in Ishpeming as a seamstress and then at the JC Penney store in Ishpeming doing alterations. Mae and her late husband Waino spent 30 years of retirement in Florida where she continued to do alterations and worked in the green thumb program at the Haines City Library. While in Ishpeming she was a member of the Bethel Lutheran Church and while in Florida was a member of the Lamb of God Lutheran Church. While in Florida, Mae also did volunteer work with the Meals on Wheels program. Mae and Waino returned to Ishpeming in 2005.
Mae is survived by two daughters: Donna (James) Nault of Owosso and Diane Poirier of Ishpeming, two sons: Dave Kari of Ishpeming and Roger (Nancy) Kari of Santa Ana, CA, a son-in-law Robert Keskey of Owosso, 13 grandchildren: Kellee (Alan) Casillas, Jeffrey (Connie) Nault, Leslie Nault, Kari Herron, Kraig Keskey, Kristen (Thomas) Mize, Robyn (Paul) Altobello, Debbee (Joe) Horton, Rodney (Kristine) Poirier, Lisa (Fred) Sitkins, David (Rehana) Kari, Nathan (Kerry) Kari, Benjamin Kari, Sandi Floyd, 33 great grandchildren, 4 great-great grandchildren along with numerous nieces and nephews.
Mae was preceded in death by her husband Waino in 2009, daughter Sheran Keskey, son Rodney Kari, granddaughter Krystal Pak, 2 grandsons: Brent Herron and David Nault, brothers Leslie Kompsi and Taisto Kompsi, sister Ingrid Anderson, son-in-law Robert Poirier, daughter-in-law Sharleen Kari, and brothers-in-law Andrew and Toivo Kari.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00am on Saturday, May 26th, 2012 at the Bethel Lutheran Church with the Rev. Lauri O. Maki to officiate. The family will greet relatives and friends from 10am – 11am on Saturday, May 26th, 2012 at the Bethel Lutheran Church. Inurnment will take place at the Ishpeming Cemetery.
