Ishpeming- Evelyn F. (Marietti) Eliassen, age 85 longtime Ishpeming resident passed away Sunday, March 27, 2011 at the Tendercare Health Center in Munising where she been a resident since 2005.

Evelyn was born November 19, 1925 in Ishpeming to Bartholomew & Bernadine (O'berto) Marietti. She graduated from Ishpeming High School, class of 1943.

Evelyn was the First Lady of Mather Nursing Center and the last resident out of Mather when they had the fire. She was asked how she knew that and her reply was "Because as they pushed me in my wheelchair out the back door, they hollered "The last patient is out!"

While a resident at the Mather Nursing Center in Ishpeming Evelyn knitted and crocheted hundreds of aphgans, shams, chucks for men, hats for women, light & door pulls for the residents, and hats for the new born babies at Bell Hospital & Hurley Hospital in Flint. When she knew the residents were down for the night she would pick up soiled cups, pieces of paper etc, so the halls would be clean, bring them to the dinning room & straighten and clean up so it was ready for the residents breakfast the next morning.

Her 50 years in nursing homes were not wasted. Rest in peace Aunty Ev

Evelyn is survived by her daughter Jessica Hawkins of Yorktown, VA, granddaughter Michelle Hawkins, grandson Arthur (Erika) Hawkins, great granddaughters Jade and Charlotte Hawkins, a brother Francis (Vivian) Marietti of Canon City, CO along with numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, 6 sisters and 4 brothers.

Evelyn will be remember during a Sunday Mass at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Ishpeming at a later date.
