Obituary

Ishpeming – Evelyn E. Corkin, age 85, of 111 Bluff St., Ishpeming, went to her eternal home peacefully on Thursday, March 20, 2014 while in the loving care of her family, Lake Superior Hospice and the staff at the Mather Nursing Center.

Evelyn was born Feb. 8, 1929 in National Mine, MI, the daughter of the late Carl and Sophie (Jarvi) Larson.  She was a graduate of National Mine High School, Class of 1947, and later attended Bay College, where she received her associate's degree in nursing.  Evelyn worked as a seamstress at the H.W. Gossard Co. in Ishpeming for many years, where she also served as a union representative.  She went on to work at the Mather Nursing Center as a nurse's aid for nearly ten years, retiring in 1994.

Evelyn was a charter member of Faith Lutheran Church, where she was active in their bible and prayer study groups, along with the quilters.  Evelyn loved to socialize with her friends and would often take planned bus trips from the high rise to local shopping areas and destinations.  She had previously been active in the Red Hat Society.  Evelyn will be remembered as one with great family values and thoroughly enjoyed spending time with her sons and daughters-in-law, grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Survivors include 2 sons – George (Mary) Corkin of Green Bay, WI and Pete (Chris) Corkin of Marquette, 2 brothers – Ken (Betty) Larson of Ishpeming and Ray (Pena) Larson of Gladwin, 3 grandchildren – Casey (Heather), Kristi & Kevin Corkin, 2 great grandchildren Jack & Max Corkin, with another grandson due in June.  She was preceded in death by her parents and 2 sisters – Helen Cox and June Tasson.

The family will greet relatives and friends from 10:00 am – 12:00 noon on Monday, March 31, 2014, at Faith Lutheran Church, County Road 581, Ishpeming, where funeral services will be celebrated at 12:00 noon with Rev. Dave Johnson officiating.  Interment will take place at Northland Chapel Gardens.  A Pasty luncheon (Ev's favorite) will follow in the church hall.
