Ishpeming, MI- Eugene Louis Gaboury, age 82, Ishpeming resident passed away on Saturday, August 10, 2024, at UP Health System Marquette.
Eugene was born in Ishpeming, Michigan on September 24, 1941, a son of the late Eugene Harold and Tillie (Ross) Gaboury. He was a graduate of St. Paul's High School in Negaunee, Class of 1960. Following high school, he attended NMU, and then served his country in the US Army.
Eugene worked for Cleveland Cliffs Iron Company for several years, starting at the Iron Ore Improvement Plant, and retired in 2000 from the Tilden Mine. He also worked briefly as a police officer for the City of Ishpeming.
Eugene was a member of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, Ishpeming Kiwanis Club, and the Ishpeming Rock and Mineral Club. He enjoyed history and spending time at the Cliffs Shaft Mining Museum. Some of Eugene's hobbies include bird hunting, steel head fishing, trapping, and gardening.
Eugene is survived by his wife Carol (Delarye) Gaboury, whom he married on May 13, 1967, two sons; Bryan Gaboury, of Ishpeming and Corey (Kristin) Gaboury, of Negaunee; three granddaughters; Haley, Hannah, and Lauren Gaboury, two sisters, JoAnn (Robert) Nelson, of Negaunee; Priscilla (David) Juchemich, of Negaunee; and a brother, Steven (Connie) Gaboury, of Ishpeming; sister-in-law, Cindy Gaboury of Negaunee, along with several nieces and nephews. Eugene was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers: Robert (Cathy) Gaboury and David Gaboury.
Eugene's family will greet relatives and friends from 10:00 – 11:00 am on Friday, August 16, 2024, at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church in Ishpeming where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 am with Fr. Larry Van Damme officiating.
A luncheon will follow at K/D Hall at St. John's Church.
Military honors will be accorded prior to the Mass by the UP-Funeral Honor's Team.
Memorials may be directed to the Cliffs Shaft Mine Museum 501 W. Euclid St. Ishpeming, MI 49849 in memory of Eugene Gaboury.
