Ishpeming – Eugene L. Dellangelo, age 80, of 625 S. Pine St. Ishpeming passed away on Tuesday, May 29, 2012 at his home while in the loving care of his family and the Upper Peninsula Home Health and Hospice.
Eugene was born July 26, 1931 in Princeton Loc. the son of the late John and Margarita (Pezzetti) Dellangelo. He was a graduate of the Ishpeming High School, Class of 1949. He went on to serve in the United States Air Force from 1950 – 1954. Eugene then furthered his education at N.M.U. where he received his bachelor's degree and went on to receive a master's degree from Stout State College. He married Alice Marietti June 15, 1957 at the St. Joseph Catholic Church in Ishpeming. Eugene started his career as a shop teacher in Mesick, MI for a few years, and then returned to this area and worked as an elementary teacher in the Republic-Michigamme School District from which he retired in 1989 following thirty years as a teacher.
Eugene was a member of the St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church. Eugene could often be found tinkering in his garage, working in his woodshop, or tending the garden. He also enjoyed the camaraderie of friends, especially the daily coffee clutch crew. Time spent at camp along with hunting and fishing were also favorites of Eugene's. He was often seen on the sidelines or in the bleachers of his children's and grandchildren's sporting events.
Survivors include his wife Alice Dellangelo of Ishpeming, 7 children – Michael (Barbara) Dellangelo of Ishpeming, Peggy Eppert of Ishpeming, Ann (Jay) Wilder of Ishpeming, Jean (Paul) Shumway of Kaysville, UT, Patty (Michael) Luke of Ishpeming, Timothy (Janine) Dellangelo of Ishpeming and Mark (Sheryl) Dellangelo of Marquette, 17 grandchildren – Tony and Jake Dellangelo, Alex, Sam, Gabe, Tony & Joe Eppert, Sara Wilder and Abbie (Bob) Salisbury, Joel, Zachary and Matthew Shumway, Isabel, Ella and Liam Luke, Tannner and Taylor Dellangelo, 5 great grandchildren Andrea, Cody and Max Eppert and Curtis and Marie Salisbury.
A memorial Mass will be celebrated at 6:00pm on Friday June 1, 2012 at the St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church in Ishpeming with Rev. Fr. Greg Heikkala to officiate. The family will greet friends from 3 until 6pm on Friday at St. John's Catholic Church. Inurnment will take place at the Ishpeming Cemetery.
Dinner will be served in the K-D Hall at the church following the memorial Mass.
