Ishpeming Twp- Ernest A. "Ernie" Borlace, age 72 of 100 Stoneville Road Ishpeming passed away Tuesday June 19, 2018 at UP Health System Marquette Hospice Suite while in the loving care of his family and UP Home Health and Hospice.
Ernest was born August 5, 1945 in Ishpeming to the late Arthur and Dora (Moyle) Borlace. Ernie graduated from Negaunee High School, class of 1964. Ernie worked for Cleveland Cliffs Iron Company for 31 years, retiring from the Tilden Mine. He was a member of the United Steel Workers Local Union #4974 and served as their secretary and grievance chairman. After retirement Ernie worked for Negaunee Public Schools and NICE Community Schools as a bus driver.
Ernie enjoyed riding motorcycles, throwing horseshoes, watching NASCAR and the Packers, and trips to the casino with Pete and Elaine Harvala. He enjoyed his time living in North Lake forging great friendships with many and in particular Jane and Mike Mariuzza. Happiest times were spent at Hill's camp with his best friend Bob Kaukola, also including much time camping at Bass Lake and visits with the Harvala family. He was most fond of working and relaxing at the deer camp with his sons and brother in law, Ken Kinnunen. He was very proud of his sons and always supported them in all their school activities, including sports. All of his special moments and memories were shared with the love of his life, Margaret.
Ernie is survived by his wife of 50 years Margaret (Moyle) Borlace, whom he married on November 4, 1967, a son Bob (Pam) Borlace of Michigamme, a grandson Aaron Borlace of Midland, MI which he cherished, and daughter in law Sarah (Greg) Weisbarth of Midland, MI. Ernie was preceded in death by his parents, 2 sons David "Bubba" and Gary Borlace and an infant brother Gary.
Ernie's family will greet relatives and friends from 9:30-11:00 am on Saturday June 30, 2018 at St. Joseph Catholic Church where a Memorial Mass will be celebrated at 11:00 am with Fr. Dan Moll officiating.
Honorary pallbearers will be Bob Borlace, Aaron Borlace, Ken Kinnunen, Bob Kaukola and Kyle Kinnunen.
A luncheon will follow in the church fellowship hall.
