Ishpeming, MI – Emlee Jane Young, age 84, longtime local resident, passed peacefully on November 10, 2022 from a Stroke at UP Health System Marquette.
Emlee was born to the late Richard and Caroline Miller on March 4, 1938 in Detroit MI. As a young adult she had four beloved children. Her family moved to the Ishpeming area in 1974.
She worked as a teacher's aide for head start and as fashion designer, on original designs. The H. W. Gossard Sewing Company and the Venice Supper Club are places she also worked before starting her own business, the Thimble, a bridal, dressing making and alteration shop.
She always loved theatre. With her love of sewing and her creative abilities she worked with many theatre companies including Westwood High School, NMU and PAAC. She spent time as an adjunct teacher in the NMU costume shop where she taught students the art of costume design and construction.
She was a vivid, eccentric artist and in every way. She loved to paint, draw, do bead work, stained glass and so much more. She loved everyone and everything intensely. She will be deeply missed by everyone. She lived and loved life to the fullest, and with passion.
She is proceeded in death her mother, father and son, Jerry Sullivan. She is survived by her lifelong and dear friend Bernie LaFond, Daughter AnnMarie (Ron) Midle, Sons - Allan (Sheila) Sullivan and Ted (Suzanne Mulder) Sullivan. Grandchildren - Jesse (Manda) Pascoe, Adam (Beth) Pascoe, Thomas Pascoe, Michelle (Chris) Nichols, Carly Sigala, Michael Sullivan and Desmond Sullivan. Also, nine Great-grandchildren, as well as her sister Sue Straus.
The family wishes to thank all the many people who have helped Emlee as she grew older and needed help, including Little Brothers and the Institute for Vision Impaired. We would like to thank the MCMCF Staff and the many special residents there, who's friendship she came to love and cherish. Also to the MCMCF Staff for their professionalism, care and kindness during her stay. Most recently to the MGH ICU Team who provided excellent care and compassion to Emlee and her family as she passed.
Per Emlee's wishes, cremation will take place and she will be laid to rest with her son Jerry at the Ishpeming Cemetery.
