Obituary

Ishpeming- Emery H. Morell, age 92 longtime Ishpeming resident, passed away Tuesday, September 15, 2009 at the Eastwood Nursing Center in Negaunee where he had been a resident since June 2007.

Emery was born January 4, 1917 in Ishpeming to Horace & Eva (Toupin) Morell. He graduated from Ishpeming High School, class of 1936. Emery served his country in the United States Army during World War II.

Emery worked for Prudential Life Insurance Company for 24 years as an insurance salesman retiring at the age of 65. Prior to his insurance career, he worked in retail as a men's clothing salesman. He was a current member of St. Paul's Catholic Church in Negaunee and formerly a long time member of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church in Ishpeming where he served as an usher, lector, and helped count church collections.

For many years Emery was a volunteer for the Bell Memorial Lifeline program, installing and repairing units in homes.

He was a life member of the Ishpeming ELKS Lodge #447 where he held many different positions within the organization. Emery was a Past Commander of the Ishpeming American Legion. As a member he organized the Memorial Day program at the Ishpeming cemetery for many years. He was currently a member of the Lillian Larson American Legion Post #114. Emery was also part of the support staff of the Blue Notes Drum & Bugle Corps.

Emery is survived by two children; Mary Ellen (David) Lerlie of Oshkosh, WI and Dr. Ross J. Morell of Brighton, MI, five grandchildren; Jon Lerlie, Jana (Ben) Weigandt, Katie Morell, Erik Morell and Kristina Morell, a great grandson Owen Weigandt, a sister Betty Chapman of Marquette along with numerous nieces & nephews.

Emery was preceded in death by his parents, wife Rita, a son Kevin and daughter Margaret, three brothers; Damian, Clement and Clayton and two sisters; Cecile Peterson and Margaret Coyle.

A Memorial Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, October 3, 2009 at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church at 11:00am, with Fr. Greg Heikkala officiating. Inurnment will take place at the Ishpeming Cemetery.

The Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter 380 will conduct Military Honors at the Ishpeming Cemetery.

The family will greet friends at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church on Saturday October 3, 2009 from 10:00am until the time of the Mass.

A luncheon will be held immediately following the Mass at the K/D Hall.
