Ishpeming- Elizabeth S. Wirtala, age 99 formerly of 111 Bluff St. Ishpeming passed away Tuesday, December 21, 2010 at the Marquette County Medical Care Facility where she been a resident for the past 5 years.

Elizabeth was born February 6, 1911 in National Mine to Matt & Kaisa (Isotalo) Mayry. She attended National Mine High School and worked for F.A. Bell Memorial Hospital for 20 years in the Laundry Department.

Elizabeth enjoyed painting, taking painting classes and sharing her paintings with all her grandchildren. She also enjoyed crocheting, knitting, reading or just spending time with her family. She was a member of the Bethel Lutheran Church.

Elizabeth is survived by 3 children: Lorraine (John) Adams of Ishpeming, Ruth (Duane) Doney of Ishpeming and Peter (Susan) Wirtala of Green Bay, WI, 11 grandchildren: John (Patty) Adams, Betty Ann Adams, Kristine (Ray) Pogliano, Paula Adams, Daniel (Kathy Jo) Doney, Judith ( Fred) Saari, Elizabeth (Robbie) Powelson, Eric (Tamara) Doney, Matthew (Laura) Wirtala, Jacob (Corrie) Wirtala and Peter Wirtala, 13 great grandchildren 3 great great grandchildren and one more expecting, along with several nieces and nephews. Elizabeth was preceded in death by her husband Werner, 2 sons William and John Wirtala, and daughter Betty Ann Wirtala, 4 sisters: Lillian Davis, Aili Johnson, Ann Erkkila and Agnes Mayry, 2 brothers: Henry and Toivo Mayry.

Funeral services will be held 11:00AM Monday, December 27, 2010 at the Bethel Lutheran Church in Ishpeming with Rev. Lauri O. Maki officiating. Interment will take place in the Ishpeming Cemetery.

The family will greet relatives and friends at the Bethel Lutheran Church on Monday from 10:00am until the time of service at 11:00AM
