Ishpeming – Elizabeth J. "Betty" Wentela, age 87, of 2001 Washington Ave., passed away on Monday Feb. 19, 2018 at the Marquette Co. Medical Care Facility where she had been a resident for the past month.
Betty was born June 6, 1930 in Negaunee the daughter of the late Alex and Rose (Brisson) Marcotte. She grew up in Negaunee and was a graduate of the St. Paul High School, Class of 1948. Betty had worked for Bell Telephone in Negaunee and at the H.W. Gossard Co. as a seamstress in Ishpeming. She married Wesley Wentela on April 16, 1955 at St. Paul Catholic Church in Negaunee. Following her marriage, Betty and Wes raised their three sons with Betty attending to the needs of her family as a homemaker.
Betty was a member of the St. Joseph Catholic Church in Ishpeming where she was active in the Women's Guild and the Sewing Circle. She enjoyed knitting, crocheting, ceramics, and reading especially Danielle Steel novels along with volunteering her time and talents.
Survivors include three sons: Richard Wentela of Ishpeming, Dale (Victoria) Wentela of Constantine, MI and Michael (Stephanie) Wentela of Darlington, WI, 4 grandchildren: Samantha (Jonathan) Cook, Carey (Kimberly) Wentela, Allyson Wentela and Cassie Wentela, 3 great grandchildren: Scarlett Cook, Aiden Wentela and Isaac Cook, special friends and neighbors Bob and Deanna Price along with numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband Wesley Wentela on Oct 31, 2017, her parents, 4 brothers: Leo, Tommy, Joe and Bob Marcotte and 2 sisters: Louise Marcotte and Florence Baldini.
The Wentela family will greet relatives and friends from 9:00am – 11:00am on Saturday, February 24, 2018 at the St. Joseph Catholic Church in Ishpeming. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 11:00am on Saturday with the Rev. Fr. Dan Moll to officiate. Interment will take place at the Ishpeming Cemetery. A luncheon will follow in the parish hall.
