Ishpeming Twp. – Elizabeth K. Fitzgerald, age 96, of 435 Stoneville Rd., Ishpeming Twp. passed away at 11:36pm on Monday October 17, 2011 at the Mather Nursing Center in Ishpeming Twp. where she had resided for the past 2 years.


Elizabeth was born January 31, 1915 in Springdale, NJ the daughter of the late Winfield A. and Ida V. (Griffith) Kay. She was raised in New Jersey, where she had graduated from high school and attended business college for 2 years. Elizabeth worked for several years as a secretary, prior to retiring to Stuart, FL with her husband Edward S. Fitzgerald. She moved to the Lakeview Apartments in Negaunee, MI at age 90 to be closer to family.


Elizabeth was a member of the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Negaunee, where she had been active in the Abigail Circle. Her interests included volunteering in a thrift store, library, literacy council, numerous church and community activities. She enjoyed reading, walking, bingo, crafts, playing bridge, and loved to send cards and write letters to friends and family.


Survivors include 2 daughters – Linda (Dave) Allain of Republic, MI, Jeanne (Robert) Maher of Russellville, MO, a sister Alice (Goff) McIntyre of Oaklyn, NJ, grandchildren – Jamie (Cindy) Bennett of Ludington, MI, David (Bridget) Allain of Madison, WI and John Wendleton of Jefferson City, MO, great grandchildren – Nicholas and Madisen Bennett and Madeline and Hadley Allain. She was preceded in death by her husband Edward Fitzgerald in 1985 and a brother Winfield Kay.


The family will greet relatives and friends from 10 – 11 am on Friday October 21, 2011 at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Negaunee. A memorial service will follow at 11:00am on Friday at the Immanuel Lutheran Church with the Rev. Marcia Solberg to officiate. Inurnment will take place at the Bay Pine National Cemetery in Bay Pines, FL.


In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Immanuel Lutheran Church, 520 US Highway 41 E., Negaunee, MI 49866
