Obituary

Ishpeming - Mrs. Elizabeth M. (Betty) Butcher, age 82, of 352 S. Second St. Ishpeming passed away at 9:10am on Sunday March 25th, 2007 at Bell Hospital in Ishpeming. She had been a resident at the Mather Nursing Center for the past three months.


Mrs. Butcher was born in Marquette, Michigan on March 11, 1925, the daughter of the late Bernard J. and Mabel Mae (Vezina) Harrington, and was a lifelong area resident. She was a graduate of the Bishop Baraga High School in Marquette with the Class of 1943. Betty was a proud homemaker and was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, where she had been active with the Ladies Guild and the Daughters of Isabella. Betty enjoyed gardening including both flower and vegetable gardens, along with spending time at her camp on the Dead River Basin.


Survivors include a daughter Mary Beth Butcher of Ishpeming, a son Thomas Butcher of Ishpeming; a sister Eileen Urbaniac of Skandia, MI; nephews - Mike Schwemin, Curtis Hoff and David Champion; a niece Bonnie Hoff, along with several great nieces and great nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband Lawrence Butcher and 2 brothers - Michael and Gerald Harrington.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at the St. Joseph Catholic Church at 11:00am on Wednesday, March 28th, 2007 with the Rev. Fr. James Challancin officiating. Interment will take place at the Ishpeming Cemetery.

Friends may call at the St. Joseph Catholic Church on Wednesday from 9:30 - 11:00am.
